Jubilee & Wiper Cooperation – Statement by Lower Eastern Elected Leaders

Wiper Elected Leaders

We the elected leaders from Lower Eastern region, unanimously and without undue regard to our party affiliations, fully and unreservedly support  H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka in his wise decision to formalise a working relationship with H.E. President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party of Kenya (JPK).

The signing of a cooperation agreement between JPK and the Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya (WDM-K) lays a firm foundation upon which to build a strong unity of purpose between members of the two political persuasions, and their affiliates, beginning with their solid bases in the Mt. Kenya and Lower Eastern regions and beyond. This agreement is calculated to set the stage for an all-inclusive exercise by like-minded Kenyans across the country and transcending political party affiliations to weave together an indivisible one Kenya movement to decisively address the challenges of our time and lay a firm foundation for national stability.

In our region, the signing of the cooperation agreement is a loud and clear call to focus our leadership and our people in the right direction. It is a call to duty for all leaders to push for a cessation of reckless political hostilities and instead refocus our energies to sensitise and mobilise our people to appreciate and embrace the dividends that come with the agreement. Our community can’t wait any longer for the completion of stalled development projects. Our people can’t wait any longer to be ably represented at the national table where important decisions on the destiny of our nation are being made.

The signing of the agreement opens a window for the fast tracking of several important national Vision 2030 flagship projects in our region. These projects include:

  1. The Konza City
  2. The Thwake Dam project which is at 35 per cent completion. The water pipeline from Thwake Dam to Konza City is a priority phase which would create the necessary synergy between the two grand projects with attendant opportunities for businesses and employment.
  3. Unlocking the gridlock in the construction of the High Grand Falls Dam on River Tana at the border of Kitui and Tharaka Nithi counties. This is billed as the second largest multipurpose dam in Africa and will mitigate the perennial flooding crisis and open opportunities for mass irrigation schemes in Kitui, Tharaka Nithi, Garissa and Tana River counties.
  4. Completion of the grand highways including the Kibwezi-KituiMigwani road and the Kandwia-Gatunga-Maua-Isiolo road.

We thank the Government of H.E. President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta for initiating many road projects in our region including the Sultan HamudKasi Keu-Mumila road among many other projects. We are appealing to the President and our leader H.E. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka to make arrangements to commission the Kibwezi-Kitui-Migwani road and launch the construction of the Kandwia-Gatunga-Maua-Isiolo road.

As the duly elected leaders representing all shades of opinion from the Lower Eastern region, we want to firmly and unequivocally restate that H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka is the only leader with authority to sit at the national negotiating table with H.E. Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta to negotiate for the interests of our community.

We now call upon the clergy, the business community, professionals and politicians from all corners of the region to rally behind our leader, H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, and support him to push forward the development and political agenda of our community. And for the avoidance of doubt, our leader is not looking for a Government job. He is keen and resolute about leading this country alongside other likeminded leaders. In this regard, we the undersigned have endorsed H.E. Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, with the support of other Kenyan leaders and communities, to run for the presidency in 2022.

We are not ignorant of divergent views in our region which are unfortunately being expressed through insults and character assassination. This route is alien to the political and social DNA of our community. We call to order those behind the insults and encourage our people to refuse to be used to insult leaders by a small clique of political brokers whose main interest is to auction our community to the highest bidder for personal selfish gain. Our people are known and respected for their humility and love for peace. Those with divergent views and those who are aggrieved by the direction given by our leader are at liberty to table their issues for discussion through mature and respectful channels. We can’t afford to send the wrong impression that our community is divided. It is not.
