WIPER PATRIOTIC FRONT EXPANDS PARTY LEADERSHIP
DR KALONZO MUSYOKA ADDRESSES STATE OF THE NATION
H.E. Dr Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, EGH, SC, Party Leader of the Wiper Patriotic Front
(WPF), announced four new appointments to the party's leadership as part of a
mandate given to him at the WPF National Delegates Congress in October 2025. The
statement also addressed the IEBC's readiness to hold the 2027 General Election,
criticised the resurgence of state-sponsored handouts at by-elections, and updated the
country on his ongoing work as Party Leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya
Coalition.
KEY APPOINTMENTS (EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY)
- Hon. Jamleck Irungu Kamau, EGH — Chairman, WPF. Former Cabinet Minister for
Nairobi Metropolitan Development, two-term MP for Kigumo, former PSC
Commissioner, and former National Vice-Chairman of the Party of National Unity.
- Ambassador Siyat Osman Ibrahim — Deputy Chairperson, WPF. Career public
administrator and diplomat of over thirty years; former CEO, Garissa Investment &
Development Authority (2019–2022); former County Secretary, Lamu County
(2013–2017).
- Hon. Mohamed Ali, CBS, HSC (MP, Nyali) — Deputy Party Leader Designate, WPF,
appointed under Article 101 of the Constitution of Kenya. Former Chief
Investigations Editor of Jicho Pevu; Chairman, Finance Committee, Parliamentary
Service Commission; founder, Mohamed Ali Foundation.
- Mr. Ndegwa Njiru — Spokesperson, WPF (a newly created office). Constitutional
advocate of the High Court, admitted to the Bar in 2011; founder, Ndegwa &
Ndegwa Advocates.
OTHER KEY POINTS
- Azimio la Umoja Coalition: Kalonzo, in his capacity as Azimio Party Leader, met
with constituent political parties and others intending to join the Coalition in
Nairobi on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, continuing consultations toward a united
opposition front ahead of August 2027.
- IEBC: Kalonzo challenges IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon's suggestion
that the Commission cannot hold elections in the current environment, citing
Section 55B of the Elections Act, and calls on him to “step aside for someone
who can” enforce the law if he cannot.
- By-election handouts: Kalonzo condemns the practice of queuing Kenyans by
gender and age to receive handouts at by-elections as “demeaning and
undignified.”
- 2027 framing: Kalonzo says the only conversation that matters is the one Kenyans
